Hill Republicans are okay that Trump endangered their lives. That’s the takeaway from today’s news that Mitch McConnell will vote to acquit Trump. This change of heart follows that of House Minority Leader McCarthy, who made a pilgrimage to Mar-a-Lago not long after unambiguously crediting Trump with inciting the January 6 riot.

The political cowardice has not surprised Washington pundits but surprised me. If Trump put me in harm’s way, expressed love for people calling for the murder of Pelosi and Pence, and who relished vandalizing the Capitol, a tipping point would have been reached.
